Rape claim sparks hunt

Police are hunting for a man following an alleged rape in a hotel.

A 39-year-old woman contacted police after the incident at around 2am yesterday at Rick’s Hotel in Frederick Street, Edinburgh.

The woman was with friends in the city centre when she met a man in Lulu nightclub in George Street.

The pair then took a rickshaw back to the hotel at around 1.45am and headed to the woman’s room. Some time after this the man allegedly raped her, then left the hotel.

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses.

The suspect is white, 6ft, stocky and has short dark hair. He spoke with an Eastern European accent and was wearing a dark bomber-type jacket with cream-coloured cuffs.
