Rangers takeover: Ticketus to have ‘no future involvement’ in club

THE ticketing agency which has been at the centre of the ownership crisis that has engulfed Rangers FC said yesterday it will have “no future involvement” in the club.

Ticketus said that it intends to play no part in the consortium being spearheaded by former Sheffield United chief executive, Charles Green, despite being linked with previous groups which were vying for control of the stricken Glasgow side.

The London-based firm, which is owed £27 million by Rangers, said that instead it expects to become a creditor in the company voluntary agreement (CVA) Mr Green and his group are striving to achieve.

Ticketus emerged as a major player in the long-running saga at Ibrox after it purchased the licence to sell 100,000 season tickets until 2015 for £25.3m.

Last week, the company formally launched a legal action against Rangers owner Craig Whyte over money owed to it by the administration-hit club.

It has been revealed that Mr Whyte gave personal guarantees to Ticketus over the capital issued on the basis of future season ticket sales.

A spokesman for Ticketus said that action was now its “main focus”, adding that while the firm’s representatives had met with Mr Green, both parties decided against joining forces.

He said: “We had some talks with Charles Green quite a long time before his name was public. There was a mutual decision not to explore that relationship any further. We are just going to be a creditor in the CVA and we’re not really at the centre of this any more, compared to the times when we were looking to strike commercial deals with the bidders.

“Our involvement is twofold now: firstly, we will be a creditor in a CVA.

“Secondly, our main focus is the pursuit of the personal corporate guarantees that we had with Craig Whyte.”
