Rangers player in court on sectarian charges

A football player is expected to appear in court today over allegations of a sectarian breach of the peace.

Rangers goalkeeper Grant Adam, 20, is alleged to have committed the offence in the early hours of yesterday morning in the Merchant City area of Glasgow.

Adam, a brother of the Liverpool and Scotland international midfielder Charlie Adam, has been a member of the Old Firm club since leaving school and is now the third-choice keeper for the team.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: “We can confirm a 20-year-old male has been charged in connection with an alleged sectarian breach of the peace, in relation to an incident in Ingram Street on Sunday 6 November.”

He is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today, charged in connection with a breach of the peace aggravated by sectarianism.

Rangers FC have also said they will investigate the incident.
