The case was called at the Justice of the Peace Court in Inverness today but was was postponed for a further four weeks.

The offence is alleged to have taken place at Nuide, a well-known speeding location between Dalwhinnie and Kingussie, on 29 March .

The case had called in court last month, again without Whyte appearing, but was continued until today when he had been ordained to appear personally.

But the JP Court was handed a letter from Glasgow-based lawyers Gildeas Ltd seeking a continuation without plea for a month. There was no explanation for his non-appearance.

The court granted the continuation until 4 July .

Whyte regularly travels north to Castle Grant, near Grantown on Spey, the ancestral seat of the Grant clan in the Highlands.

Whyte was handed a lifetime ban from Scottish football earlier this year, imposed by the SFA after he was charged with not being a fit and proper person to be a director of a club.
