Ralph wheels out ticket to travel

A CITY businessman is hoping a new invention will make travel easier for those with disabled passengers.

Jim Ralph, who Tranent-based Ralph Plastics, has created a trailer for carrying wheelchairs, which fits on to a rack at the back of a car.

Mr Ralph, who came up with the idea after difficulties transporting his disabled mother, has held the patent for the idea for the past decade but has only recently completed his design.

The fibreglass moulder, who helped create a replacement for North Berwick's whale jawbone in 2008, said: "I don't think there's anything else like this on the market. When I came up with it, I thought I had a good idea, that it was something worthwhile."

Mr Ralph is yet to sell any of his designs, but expects to market them for around 1000.
