Racist tweets to Rangers

POLICE are to investigate complaints that racist messages were sent to two black Rangers players using the micro-blogging site Twitter.

Maurice Edu and Kyle Bartley were targeted by a user whose profile listed him as living in Glasgow.

One directed at Edu read “go back to the jungle were u belong”, while another sent to Bartley said: “Hope you crash on the way hame”. It was followed by a racist insult.

The messages were posted on the public site but also included the players’ user names so they would appear in their message streams.

Edu, who also plays for the United States national team, later tweeted that it was a “sad day though when that’s what people are tweeting”.

Bartley, who is on loan from Arsenal, added: “Disappointing that in 2012 things like this are still happening. Hopefully the police will take action. Thank you all for the support.”

Strathclyde Police said they have been made aware of the messages and would investigate.
