Pupils teach us to encourage garden wildlife

GREEN-fingered Tynewater Primary pupils Lauren Pearson and Holly Brown called into Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden to help promote Scotland's involvement in the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB).

The initiative calls upon people across the country to help preserve biodiversity including encouraging wildlife in gardens.

Andrew Thin, chairman of Scottish Natural Heritage, said: "I'd like to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the wonderful nature in Scotland, and take the IYB pledge to 'do one thing' to help biodiversity. Perhaps take part in a wildlife survey, make your garden more bee-friendly, plant a window box or – here's an easy one – don't mow your lawn to help wildlife thrive."
