Pupils prove good sports for Games

SCHOOL pupils are putting their best foot forward today to support Scotland as Commonwealth Games 2014 host.

Children at Royal Mile Primary School are going to classes while wearing trainers as part of National Sport Your Trainers Day, which has been devised to encourage everyone from business leaders and doctors to politicians and office workers to ditch their normal footwear and wear their trainers to support Glasgow 2014.

Edinburgh sports leader Deidre Brock said: “The Commonwealth Games in 2014 will be an enormously exciting time for all of Scotland.

“Today’s event is an excellent way of getting everyone involved, and I hope we’ll see as many residents as possible kitted out in their trainers.

“Here in Edinburgh, we’re on the threshold of a very important Commonwealth Games milestone with our much-loved Royal Commonwealth Pool – which will host the diving events in 2014 – about to reopen.”

The pool will be reopened by Olympic swimming gold medallist David Wilkie on March 20 and will open to the public the following day.
