Pupils learn to preserve buildings

TEN school pupils have completed a unique training course in plastering, marbling, joinery and stone masonry – to help preserve historic buildings.

The S4 youngsters from Drummond Community High School received certificates for taking part in the Heritage Skills programme.

City planning leader, Councillor Jim Lowrie said: “This is an inspiring and worthwhile course that is equipping young people with important skills to help protect our historic buildings into the future. Well done to all pupils.”

The course was delivered by Telford College in collaboration with Citadel Youth Centre, The Junction, Edinburgh World Heritage, Historic Scotland and the city council.

It has been part-financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund through the Leith Townscape Heritage Initiative.

Maureen McGinn, chairwoman of the Big Lottery Fund’s Scotland Committee, presented the pupils with their certificates.
