Pupils learn to count on pension staff

CHILDREN at a Capital primary are having their learning skills boosted - by volunteers from a pensions company.

Around 15 volunteers from Royal London Group, the UK's largest mutual life and pensions company, are helping pupils at Dalry Primary School by playing numbers-based board games or reading books with them.

The work is part of Number and Reading Partners and involves the volunteers spending an hour a week with children aged five to eight.

The programme aims to support schools in raising achievement in numeracy and literacy.

Dalry headmaster David Fleming said: "The volunteers from Royal London are making a big difference to our children here in Dalry Primary School by giving something valuable to them - not money, but time."
