Pupils devise scenic guide for disabled

A NEW guide of scenic routes for wheelchair users has been devised by senior pupils at a Midlothian special school.

The pupils, from Saltersgate School in Dalkeith, have created a booklet highlighting exceptional routes and have included helpful information such as duration, terrain and how good the views are.

The advice will be collated in individual leaflets compiled by the team of nine teenagers and will eventually be available to download from the school’s website.

Cllr Lisa Beattie, education spokesman, said: “This sounds like a real community service. I’m sure people in wheelchairs, their families and friends, will all benefit from knowing where they can go to enjoy a really great day out with plenty of fresh air and good views.”

The group comprised of Mark Cleary, Jennifer Campbell, Claire Scott, Keith Hamilton, Laura McCann, Ryan Tweedie, Jamie McGinnis, Darren King and Paul Allan.
