Pubs’ demise inspired book by landladies

THE demise of the traditional British pub inspired two former landladies to write a hit book about their experiences, the pair have revealed.

Kate McGregor and Linda Tweedie have notched up 25 years in the industry between them, running various bars across Edinburgh and East Lothian.

Earlier this year they released a book – Life Behind Bars: Confessions of a Pub Landlady – which details several amusing tales featuring staff and punters alike. It was a huge success, with copies flying off the shelves.

And now the pair have admitted they were inspired to write as a way of recording the experiences of the traditional British pub.

Ms Tweedie, who has since changed careers to run a dress shop, said: “With many pubs closing we felt that we wanted to share our anecdotes before the Great British pub is lost forever.

“I’ve always had a passion for writing so Kate and I came up with the ‘novel’ idea, as our customers used to tell us to write a book about our memorable experiences from our time behind bars.”
