Public urged to join council house drive

The charity will be in North Berwick on November 28, as part of a 33-date tour of Scotland to gather public support for its End the Wait campaign.

Across Scotland, there are currently 156,000 households on waiting lists for a home. Of those, 3634 are in East Lothian.

The charity is taking to the streets of cities and towns across Scotland to get local politicians and members of the public to sign up to the campaign before presenting the results to the Housing Minister at Holyrood.

Graeme Brown, director at Shelter Scotland, said: “The housing crisis in Scotland is not going away. That’s why we want as many people as possible to sign our petition to show their concern about the lack of housing and to call on the Scottish Government to build 6000 new socially-rented houses this year and in each of the next four years.”
