£600,000 security upgrade for residents

NEW digital CCTV cameras, screen doors and upgraded fire-resistant paint are to be installed on the landings of housing blocks in the south-west of Edinburgh.

The Landing Upgrade Project, which will see six blocks in the Calders undergo improvements at a £600,000 cost, is unveiled at an event in Dunsyre House South today.

Landings on the first floor of the tower block have now been completed and similar upgrades are planned for the remaining landings over the next 18 months.

The blocks currently have CCTV cameras installed. The aim of the project is to reduce vandalism repair costs and give residents in the blocks a greater sense of security.

Cammy Day, the city’s housing leader, said: “These improvements will be welcomed by people living in the Calders. The new measures are designed to improve safety.”
