Clooney-mania is expected to sweep the city during his November visit with fans being offered the chance to dine with the star by donating a hot drink to a homeless person through cafe chain Social Bite.

Whilst in town – his first visit to Scotland since 2005 – the actor, 53, will also take time to deliver the keynote speech at the Scottish Business Awards.

Clooney follows in the footsteps of former US president Bill Clinton, who delivered the same address in 2013, and renowned entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson in 2014.

Josh Littlejohn, 28, who founded both the Scottish Business Awards and Social Bite chain along with fiancée Alice Thompson, 24, approached Clooney after recognising the actor’s humanitarian work.

To land a chance of lunch with the Ocean’s Eleven star a £5 donation will cover the cost of the hot drink, with all remaining proceeds shared between Social Bite and Not On Our Watch, a charity Clooney co-founded with a group of Hollywood friends including Brad Pitt and Matt Damon to raise awareness of atrocities in Burma, Darfur and Zimbabwe.

Mr Littlejohn said: “It’s a fantastic honour to be bringing one of the world’s most famous men to Scotland and it is amazing that he is supporting Social Bite.

“He’ll be visiting a Social Bite cafe to meet our staff and customers as well as sample the food while here and who knows, he may even join the team and lend a helping hand behind the counter. For many of our team who until recently lived on the streets, this is a really amazing thing to look forward to.”

The prize also includes a luxury overnight stay for two at the five-star Waldorf Astoria Caledonian hotel, while a runner-up will get to meet Clooney and watch his speech at the awards in EICC on November 12.

John Prendergast, Not On Our Watch board member and former White House official, added: “Not On Our Watch and our board member George Clooney hope to raise further awareness about the important impact charitable donations can have in making a difference in the world.”

Last year’s event was attended by almost 2000 of Scotland’s corporate elite, as Rockstar North’s Leslie Benzies was crowned CEO of the Year and Aberdeen Asset Management’s Martin Gilbert won Entrepreneur of the Year.
