£1m home insulation boost for city

AN extra £1 million has been allocated by the Scottish Government to insulate homes in the Capital.

The cash will help improve the energy efficiency and cut power bills in 1600 homes.

It’s part of a £6m Scotland-wide investment through the Universal Home Insulation Scheme.

Making the announcement, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “This is the kind of vital help which can make a real difference to those struggling to make ends meet.”

City housing leader Cammy Day said: “This extra investment is great news. The scheme has proved very successful in Edinburgh with thousands of homes already benefiting from it.

“With the recent gas and electricity price increases the extension of this scheme is going to help even more households in the Capital reduce energy consumption and tackle fuel poverty.

Homeowners should see a reduction in their energy bills and also ensure their homes are warmer.”
