£160,000 plan for upgrades to High Street approved

A £160,000 plan for further improvement and upgrading works to Dalkeith High Street has been approved by Midlothian Council.

The project includes replacing existing cobbled paving at Jarnac Court with the same kind of Yorkstone slabs recently used to re-pave High Street pavements.

Councillor Russell Imrie, Midlothian Council’s cabinet member for strategic services, said: “Our plan is to replace the existing paving within Jarnac Court, which has deteriorated and poses a potential safety risk to pedestrians..”

There will be a period for public consultation before the works start, which is likely to be early next year.

To utilise an underspend from the Dalkeith High Street environmental improvement works, Midlothian Council will – subject to approval by the Scottish Government – fund the remaining cost of the new project from its Capital General Services budget.
