Protesters target firms

DEMONSTRATORS were today planning to “besiege” local businesses and charities participating in the government’s controversial “work-for-your-benefits” schemes.

The demonstration in the Capital is one of over 25 round the UK, co-ordinated through the Boycott Workfare network.

The protest, called by Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty, was expected to see participants gather at Hunter Square.

ECAP spokesperson Ethel McDonald said: “More and more people are seeing the injustice of forcing people to work for nothing.”
