Protest at honour for William

An anti-monarchy protest is to be staged as Prince William enters Scotland’s highest chivalric order tomorrow.

Watched by his wife, the Countess of Strathearn as she is known in Scotland, William will become a Knight of the Thistle in an honour given by the Queen.

But Republic Scotland says it is a “further example of how unfair the monarchy and honours system in this country is”.

Paul Leinster, chair of the group, said: “Instead of being presented to Scottish people who have worked hard to improve the country, or who have made a positive difference to people’s lives, the Order of the Thistle is presented to friends and relatives of the Queen.”

The protest will begin from 9am, with the Queen expected to arrive at St Giles around 10.30am before the service begins at 11am.
