Project aims to root out rogue traders

A PROJECT aimed at rooting out rogue traders in East Lothian has been launched by the county’s Trading Standards team, it has emerged.

The East Lothian Trusted Trader scheme invites firms to sign up to a register of legitimate businesses that will help market their company and distinguish themselves from charlatans. Member companies will be listed on a dedicated Trusted Trader website which allows customers to leave reviews of the company.

Businesses signing up to the scheme must agree to a Code of Practice and in return can use Trusted Trader logos to promote their company.

Tony McAuley, East Lothian’s Trading Standards manager, said: “We expect that the scheme will provide reassurance for consumers that the trader they choose to do business with have public liability insurance, can prove their qualifications and membership of trade associations.”
