Primary schools in the Lasswade area have organised a special Fairtrade-themed football tournament on Friday, March 9 at Hopefield Primary School from 9.30am to 11.30am.

Councillor Peter Boyes, the council’s education spokesman, said: “I encourage parents, pupils and the whole community to go along and take part in this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight events.

“Fairtrade aims to ensure that workers and farmers in developing countries have fairer wages, safer working conditions and a genuine chance to work their way out of poverty.

“It’s a very worthwhile cause which deserves our support.”
