Pupils from a Lothians primary school have won a competition for having the most children cycle to school.

Mauricewood Primary in Penicuik came top of the Cycling Scotland ‘Give Me Cycle Space’ campaign, with 65 per cent of their P6 pupils taking their bikes to school over a week in May.

The prize is a class trip to Glentress outdoor cycling centre near Peebles, funded and organised by Cycling Scotland.

Starting after the Easter holidays, the campaign targeted drivers, parents, and children, in an attempt to create awareness of child cyclists.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said: “This national campaign reminds drivers to play their part in encouraging more young people to take up cycling.”
