Prestonpans fire: Two taken to hospital

• Two women have been taken to hospital after a fire in Prestonpans

• Around 290 firefighters tackled the fire in Grange Crescent

The blaze broke out in the ground floor hall of a two-storey property in Grange Crescent, Prestonpans, near Edinburgh, at about 4.15am.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said two women, aged 42 and 43, were led to safety from the house by officers who arrived at the scene before firefighters.

They were taken to the city’s Royal Infirmary to be treated for smoke inhalation and crews put the fire out within half an hour.

Meanwhile, about 20 firefighters have been tackling a large blaze which started at an insulation factory just after 1.30am.

A fire service spokesman said six lorry trailers full of glass wool were well alight at Superglass on the Thistle Industrial Estate in Stirling.

He said initial reports suggested there may have been an explosion at the plant because of the speed with which the fire took hold.

Crews are still at the scene dampening the area down.
