Praise as MS home saved

POLITICIANS from across the spectrum have welcomed the reprieve for Leuchie House, the respite home in East Lothian which was earmarked for closure by the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Earlier this month, the society announced it would continue funding the centre for at least six months to allow Leuchie house manager Mairi O'Keefe to establish an independent charity to take it over.

A motion praising the move tabled by Labour's health spokeswoman Jackie Baillie has won support from East Lothian MSP Iain Gray, fellow Labour MSPs Malcolm Chisholm, George Foulkes, Rhona Brankin, Sarah Boyack and Mary Mulligan, as well as Green Robin Harper and Lib Dem Mike Pringle.

The motion also congratulates Ms O'Keefe.
