Power cut hits Capital shops

BUSINESSES on Princes Street had no electricity for more than an hour on one of the busiest shopping days of the year thanks to a power cut.

In total the blackout affected 113 properties – including high street shops to the east of the street – when the power supply was disrupted just after 9am on Saturday morning.

ScottishPower said a problem at a nearby sub-station was to blame, and that power was back up an hour later.

Included in the blackout was the Disney Store, Waterstone's and the T-Mobile phone shop, though managers said it was not a regular problem. One shop boss said: "It's not ideal to have no power on Easter Saturday, but it was fixed quickly enough."
