Post Office plans are 'good news'

PLANS to make post offices the "front office" for government will help secure the network across Edinburgh, according to city MP Mike Crockart.

He welcomed the UK Government's announcement of pilot schemes using post offices as a gateway to government services and plans to allow RBS and NatWest customers to access accounts over the post office counter. The move comes as the coalition presses ahead with privatisation plans.

Mr Crockart, Lib Dem MP for Edinburgh West, said: "Ministers are aware of the importance of the network and the news we are going to look at expanding the range of services available over the counter can only be good news."
