Portraits up for auction

A PAIR of lost portraits of two of Scotland’s best-known 20th-century artists – painted by each other – is set to fetch up to £50,000 at a city auction.

The oil portraits were painted by the late Steven Campbell and his friend Adrian Wiszniewski.

The pair decided to paint each other in 1987, but Campbell’s was sold off by the artist into a private collection.

The portrait of Campbell also vanished but, after his sudden death in 2007, was found in his mother’s attic. The two paintings will be sold as a single lot at Bonhams tomorrow, when they are expected to make £30,000 to £50,000.
