Pool set to make splash

THE city’s Commonwealth Pool will provide a “world class” resource for Glasgow 2014, a councillor has said.

The Newington pool is nearing completion following a lengthy redevelopment.

It will host diving events for the Commonwealth Games in three years’ time.

Culture leader Councillor Deidre Brock said: “The pool is one of Edinburgh’s best-loved facilities, where generations of children have learned to swim and where some of the world’s top swimmers and divers have competed at international level.

“This huge project will transform the RCP into one of the UK’s premier aquatics centres, ensuring the diving events in 2014 will be contested in a world-class facility, and making the RCP the only venue in the world to have hosted three Commonwealth Games.”
