Tory councillor to contest Donside by-election

Councillor Thomson, who represents the Hazlehead, Ashley and Queens Cross ward on the council, contested the seat at the 2011 Holyrood election when he received 2166 votes - 8.1 per cent of the vote. The seat was won by SNP candidate Brian Adam whose death from cancer has caused the by-election to be held.

Mr Thomson said: “As a born and bred Aberdonian, and someone brought up in the Bridge of Don community, I feel that more than any other candidate I understand their concerns, hopes and aspirations.

“I have a strong record of delivering for local people with a reputation for getting things done and improving people’s quality of life.”

He added: “If elected to the Scottish Parliament, I will use that same drive, enthusiasm and determination to deliver change for the people of Aberdeen Donside. This is clearly demonstrated in my record, which includes helping to deliver the third Don Crossing, superfast broadband and the freezing of parking permits.“

He claimed: “Aberdeen is Scotland’s forgotten city. Only the Conservatives recognise the city is not only the powerhouse of Scotland’s economy but of the UK economy too. For too long, Aberdeen has suffered from the SNPs agenda of centralisation, and from being used as their cash cow for the rest of Scotland.”

Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Conservative’s leader, said: “I am delighted that Ross has been selected as the Scottish Conservative’s candidate to fight the Aberdeen Donside by-election.An Aberdeen boy born and raised, Ross loves this city and is already working hard as a councillor to make it an even better place to live, work and study.“

She continued: “Young and enthusiastic, Ross has limitless energy with which to fight for the people of Aberdeen Donside – I know he is desperate to get out on the campaign trail and I only hope I am able to keep up with him.”
