‘Stick to jobs at home’ call to Sturgeon

Scottish Labour has said Nicola Sturgeon should be focusing on tackling joblessness in Scotland, after she announced plans to travel to Brussels to set out how an independent Scotland could become an “equal partner” in the European Union.

Ms Sutrgeon will address leading figures from EU organisations in a speech tomorrow.

James Kelly, Scottish Labour’s chief whip, said: “Now the minister in charge of economic recovery is heading to Brussels to give a speech on independence, when she should be at home trying to create jobs for the 11,000 Scots who are no longer in work.”

But a spokesman for Ms Sturgeon said: “This is a pathetic
attack.”

He added: “As well as speaking to the European Policy Centre, [Ms Sturgeon] will discuss issues of importance to Scotland, such as structural funds.”
