SNP ‘on course for Holyrood landslide’

The SNP remains on course for another landslide in next year’s Holyrood election, new polling evidence today shows.

Most Scots (51 per cent) are poised to vote for Nicola Sturgeon’s party next May, a YouGov poll for the Times reveals. This is up 2 per cent since the last poll in May, while Labour is down 3 per cent on just 22 per cent.

The survey also finds that just 16 per cent of Scots say that Labour is effective at holding the SNP Government to account. This is lower than the Tories on 19 per cent, according to the poll of 1,110 Scots.

It makes grim reading for, Kezia Dugdale, the new labour leader in Scotland. Overall, the Lothians MSP has an approval rating of -15, while Ms Sturgeon is on 39.

A Scottish Labour spokesman said: “It will take time for people to hear our message, but we will leave no-one in any doubt that Scottish Labour is for everyone who wants to see a fairer Scotland.”

The poll was carried out before Jeremy Corbyn was elected Labour leader.

The Tories have increased their support from 15 per cent to 18 per cent, while the Liberal Democrats have dropped another 3 per cent to 4 per cent.

On the regional list, the SNP is up two points to 45 per cent, while Labour is down four to 20 per cent. The Tories are up two on 18 per cent.
