Sheridan wrote from jail cell over hacking scandal

FORMER MSP Tommy Sheridan wrote from his prison cell to the Labour MP who helped to expose the News International phone-hacking scandal urging him to pursue Rupert Murdoch, who he described as a “bully of the worst kind”.

Mr Sheridan’s letter to Tom Watson was revealed in the MP’s book Dial M for Murdoch News Corporation and the Corruption of Britain, which chronicles the phone-hacking scandal that broke last year.

The book, published yesterday, includes a section on Mr Sheridan’s legal battles with the News of the World that saw the former Scottish Socialist leader awarded £200,000 in damages, before being handed a three-year jail term for perjury.

Sheridan wrote to Mr Watson – who has previously said the former MSP may be “innocent” – to warn him not to back down in his pursuit of News International.

Mr Sheridan wrote: “Murdoch must not be allowed to assume the role of Pontius Pilate in the whole sorry affair.

“They are the bullies of the worst kind, as with any bully running away only invites them to be more aggressive.”
