The constituency is being contested after Bill Walker, an SNP politician who then became an independent MSP, resigned from the Holyrood seat after being convicted of a string of domestic abuse offences.

Nationalists have selected the former MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville to contest the by-election which is taking place this month.

As he campaigned in the Fife town, the SNP leader said that only a vote for her would secure the “people’s policies in Dunfermline”.
