Salmond backs Capital case as UK green bank location

FIRST Minister Alex Salmond has repeated his support for Edinburgh’s bid to become the headquarters of the new UK Green Investment Bank as the campaign is stepped up.

He told the Scottish Parliament he had been in touch with UK ministers on the issue and stressed the wide support for the Capital’s efforts.

More than 20 UK cities have indicated an interest.

Owen Kelly, chief executive of Scottish Financial Enterprise, said: “It is key that everyone gets behind the proposal in the coming weeks to make the case for the city.

“Vince Cable set out clearly what he is looking for in a location earlier this week and Edinburgh satisfies the criteria on all counts. We have a broad range of interests, including politicians from all parties, working together to make the case for Edinburgh and we welcome the First Minister adding his voice to the calls for the UK’s Green Investment Bank to be located in Edinburgh.”
