Provost to take on new role in NHS

Bill Howatson, the Provost of Aberdeenshire, has been appointed the new chairman of NHS Grampian.

He will replace Dr David Cameron, who also resigned earlier this year from his role as chairman of the Scottish Food Advisory Committee, after it was revealed he had been suspended from the national board following an investigation into undisclosed claims made by a female junior employee at the Food Standards Agency.

Councillor Howatson, a former agricultural journalist, said: “I am looking forward to the challenges which lie ahead.

“I very much welcome this opportunity to contribute towards the development of health and healthcare in the north east. These are exciting times for the NHS in Grampian and my focus will be on delivering the ambitious plans we have.”

He added: “I am enthusiastic and positive about the years ahead. NHS Grampian is a forward-looking organisation, committed to giving the people of the north east the best possible health and healthcare.

“Traditionally in Grampian, the NHS and our partners, including the local authorities, have enjoyed very close working relationships and I intend to continue to forge links.”
