Praise for Scots’ anti-trafficking initiative

SCOTLAND has made a start in tackling the growing scourge of human trafficking, a follow-on report has found.

In particular, the Equality and Human Rights Commission praised plans to make the crime easier to prosecute.

The Scottish Government held a summit on the issue in October, at which Police Scotland also revealed plans to create a human trafficking unit.

While EHRC said this was encouraging, it warned there was a long way to go.

Baroness Helena Kennedy, QC, investigating commissioner for the 2011 EHRC human trafficking inquiry, said: “It is encouraging to see such meaningful and considered actions.”
