Poll wording up for debate

THE Scottish Government has said the alternative wording of the referendum question proposed by an expert panel can be considered – along with more than 26,000 other responses to the consultation on the plebiscite.

The panel said the ballot paper should have a statement – “Scotland should become an independent state” – followed by the tick-box options “I agree” or “I do not agree”.

The unionist parties argued the SNP’s preferred wording was biased.
