He accused the SNP of “talking left but acting right”.
He said: “They [the SNP] voted against the living wage, they voted against a cap in rent levels, they voted against fair taxes for Scotland’s schools.”
He said that he was “devastated” by the election result in Scotland which saw all but one of Labour’s 41 seats go to the Nationalists.
SNP Depute Leader Stewart Hosie MP said: “Mr McDonnell’s comments confirm that when it comes to Scotland Labour haven’t changed.
“Rather than learning from their mistakes and setting out a positive vision for the country, they are repeating the same negative and ill-informed rhetoric that saw them all but wiped out.”
