New Provost joins the chain gang

Donald Wilson has been formally appointed to his position as Lord Provost – and made his first act to wish Hearts and Hibs well at tomorrow’s Scottish Cup final.

The computing teacher and stepdad of two was handed the chains of office yesterday at a packed City Chambers and vowed to devote himself to representing the city.

“As Edinburgh’s first citizen I’ll make it my first proclamation to wish both sides the very best,” he told councillors and members of the public.

SNP member Deidre Brock was formally approved as Deputy Lord Provost, while Andrew Burns and Steve Cardownie were accepted as leader and deputy leader of the council respectively.

Cllr Brock hails from Perth in Australia, but is not the first foreign national to hold the post as her predecessor Rob Munn was Canadian.
