Named Person scheme to come under fire from Ruth Davidson

Critics of the proposal to give every child in Scotland a “named person” have claimed it is an unwarranted intrusion by the state into family life.

The scheme, which will be rolled out across Scotland in August, will see a “named person” – usually a teacher or health visitor – appointed to keep an eye on all under 18s.

The new system is supposed to ensure a child’s wellbeing but has been described as “state-snooping” by its opponents.

Ahead of her visit to Aberfeldy, Ms Davidson said: “It’s not only an unacceptable intrusion into family life, but it spreads resource too thinly.”
