MSP calls for banks to lend

LABOUR'S Mary Mulligan has called on the UK government to press the banks to increase lending to first-time buyers.

The Linlithgow MSP was commenting in response to speculation that the Chancellor is to give the Bank of England powers to impose limits on the type of mortgage lending that lenders will be able to undertake in the future.

She said: "First-time buyers in Scotland have already been badly let down by the SNP, who broke their manifesto promise to provide grants of 2,000."
