MP looks at veto effect

EDINBURGH North and Leith Labour MP Mark Lazarowicz is asking local firms how they think David Cameron’s veto at last month’s European summit will affect their export business.

He said 48 per cent of UK exports went to other states in the European Union, making it the UK’s main export market and the ability to influence trade terms with the rest of Europe was vital for the UK economy.

He said: “I am concerned that because of what happened at the European Council a great deal of uncertainty has been created for businesses operating in Edinburgh.

“The Prime Minister has left the UK unable to influence decisions affecting UK companies’ largest export market. I will be pressing the government to ensure that UK firms are protected in the EU and that our position is not undermined by recent events.”
