Midlothian is not working

MIDLOTHIAN is one of the worst places in Scotland for trying to find a job.

The GMB union said the area had 3,900 people unemployed – 7.9 per cent of the working-age population.

There were also 7,600 people classed "economically inactive".

The survey ranked Midlothian third worst behind North and East Ayrshire. West Lothian came in 18th out of 30 council areas. Edinburgh was 20th and East Lothian was 26th.

GMB general secretary Paul Kenny said the government was pursuing "fantasy island politics" over unemployment.
