Mone, 44, was made a Lord and appointed small business champion by prime minister David Cameron in August last year.

She was tasked with putting together a report on entrepreneurship and the difficulties of establishing small businesses in deprived areas for Work and Pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith.

Since being appointed to the House of Lords - believed by some to be a reward for opposing Scottish independence in 2014’s referendum and backing the Conservatives at the last general election - she has attended nearly eight in ten votes, but is yet to speak in any debates.

The Glasgow-born mum-of-three split from husband Michael in 2011, and has been romantically linked with Stefan Soroka, a golf professional at the exclusive Sandy Lane resort on the island of Barbados.

Lady Mone tweeted to her 1.05 million Twitter followers yesterday: “You can turn your life around. Sold Ultimo, new businesses are doing exceptionally well & after 3 years madly in love” along with a photo of herself and Soroka.

Lady Mone also hinted at spending more time in Barbados, tweeting earlier this month: “House hunting #Barbados.”

Her time in the House of Lords has not gone without incident - she angered many people by tweeting ‘If you really want something, really work hard, don’t look for excuses, be proactive, have a can-do attitude & never ever give up, you will succeed’ just days before voting to cut tax credits for millions of families last October, a motion later blocked by the House of Lords after 289 peers voted to delay tax credit cuts and provide compensation to those affected, compared to 272 who voted in favour of the cuts.

In August last year, her former company Ultimo Brand announced losses of nearly £400,000 - almost eight times more than the losses posted for 2013.
