Lambeth leader brings public involvement debate to city

THE leader of Lambeth Council in London will speak about its co-operative system of governance during a visit to the Capital today.

Councillor Steve Reed will be speaking at an event hosted by the Labour Party about his local authority’s track record in involving the public in the decision-making process.

Edinburgh Labour has made a manifesto pledge ahead of the May 3 elections to open up local government, including the budget process.

They have also committed themselves to setting up a public petitions process, whereby local campaigns with enough support would be debated and considered as policies.

Cllr Reed will be speaking at The Meeting Room, Quaker Meeting House, 7 Victoria Terrace.

Tea and coffee will be available from 11.30am, and the speech will take place at 12 noon.

Labour said all are welcome to the event.

Cllr Reed will also visit the Meadows/Morningside and Sighthill/Gorgie wards during his visit to Edinburgh.
