Independence: ‘No’ campaign to send video messages

Pro-Union campaign Better Together will conduct an opinion poll on Scottish independence today by sending a video text message to 300,000 people.

The mobile opinion poll contains a video message from a campaign youth rep and is a first for any political campaign, according to the group.

The poll is the first in a series of campaign “innovations” to be used by Better Together in the coming weeks. These are said to include many of the social media-based campaign tools designed for President Obama’s successful re-election.

Better Together is working with Blue State Digital which was responsible for the “digital strategy” of the Mr Obama’s election campaign.

Referendum

Blair McDougall of Better Together said: “The referendum on Scotland’s future is the biggest decision any of us will ever be asked to make. We have to make sure that we use every opportunity available to us to speak to Scots and to give them the facts that they need to help them make this decision.

“Technology has changed our world. Now we are using it to change political campaigning. Now that the campaign has begun in earnest we will be rolling out more innovations like this one.

“The people who are working for us have experience of campaigning at the highest level.

“They will make sure that we never miss a chance to win every vote come the referendum next year.”
