Green policy questioned as Swinney reveals car figures

THE Scottish Government’s environmental credentials were called into question today after it was revealed less than one-sixth of its ministerial limos are green vehicles.

Finance Secretary John Swinney admitted in a parliamentary answer that out of the 208 cars in the official fleet, only 26 are hybrid vehicles with a further three that are electric.

Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Jim Hume said: “The SNP love to make the most of every opportunity to talk the talk on the environment. However, these answers reveal that the SNP are not taking enough action in Government to back up their warm words.

“With only 14 per cent of their fleet either hybrid or electric, they are not setting the example that we would hope for from a government that has set significant climate change targets.”
