‘Extremist’ taunt over SNP links

ENGLISH moderates need to speak out to help keep Scotland in the Union, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie is expected to tell delegates today.

ENGLISH moderates need to speak out to help keep Scotland in the Union, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie is expected to tell delegates today.

In his speech in Brighton, Mr Rennie is set to claim the SNP is “aligning with extreme English nationalist voices”.

He is expected to accuse SNP MP Angus MacNeil of using Twitter to endorse the views of the English Democrats.

Mr Rennie will say: “Other nationalist parties in the UK, such as Plaid Cymru, have refused to meet with the English Democrats because of their extreme views. Yet Angus MacNeil thought it wise to speak at their annual conference and repeatedly promote their views on Twitter.”

But Mr MacNeil dismissed the attack as “bizarre”.
