Donald Trump happy to help Scotland ‘save itself from madness’ of wind turbines

DONALD Trump has said it would be a “great honour” to appear before a Scottish Parliament inquiry into green energy, as the American tycoon accepted an invitation from MSPs to give evidence at Holyrood.

Holyrood’s economy and energy committee agreed to invite Trump Organisation representatives to appear before them, after Mr Trump branded wind turbines “ugly monstrosities” and “horrendous machines”.

He has already halted work on his £1 billion luxury golf resort in Aberdeenshire over plans to build an offshore wind farm nearby, as he claims that the turbines in Aberdeen Bay will spoil the sea views for his customers.

Now the New York-based billionaire has warned he will use his appearance before MSPs to launch a fresh attack on wind farms, saying he was looking forward to “helping Scotland save itself from this madness”.

He said: “It will be my great honour to testify about the impact that these atrocious industrial wind turbines will have on Scotland, which are ruining the landscapes and environments all over the world”.

The invitation to Mr Trump to appear before MSPs comes after committee convener Murdo Fraser and his deputy John Wilson held “exploratory talks” with the tycoon’s son, Donald Trump jnr, and George Sorial of the Trump Organisation.

Mr Fraser said: “The committee agreed they wanted to hear from Donald Trump about his wider concerns regarding the impact of wind energy development on tourism and the economy in Scotland.”

Mr Trump is expected to appear before MSPs next month.
