Criticism for calls to ban fast-food ads ban calls

A LEADING anti-censorship group last night criticised calls by the Scottish Government to ban fast-food advertising on television until after 9pm in an attempt to tackle childhood obesity.

Michael Matheson, MSP, Scottish public health minister, has written to Andrew Lansley, the UK Health Secretary urging a nationwide ban.

Campaign against Censorship said: “The state cannot dictate what we eat and watch. Our position is it’s up to the parents and carers to supervise what their children are watching.

People who watch television after 9pm are not likely to be the group that advertisers are targeting anyway.”
